Churches abound in our modern culture, and no two are exactly alike. They can vary quite dramatically from each other and look very much the same from the outside. Some of the distinctives of Sovereign Grace Church of Pasadena are outlined below. For a more formal and detailed description of our beliefs and core values, please see our statement of faith.

 | Ron Boomsma and his wife Tami moved from Michigan to Pasadena in the Summer of 1990, and it was then they were first introduced to Abundant Life Community Church (Now Sovereign Grace Pasadena) and Sovereign Grace Ministries. After attending their first Sunday meeting they knew God had provided a new church home for them. After leading a care group for several years and serving in various capacities, Ron was asked to join the leadership team. In the fall of 1998 then-Senior Pastor Mark Mullery was asked to serve another Sovereign Grace church in Fairfax, Virginia. Ron joined the pastoral staff later that year. In the Spring of 1999 Ron began to serve as the Senior Pastor of ALCC. Ron and Tami are the parents of 5 wonderful children and very grateful to God for that gift. | | Lynn Baird has been pastoring for 30 years in both Arizona and California. In the mid '70s he was involved in planting a church near Phoenix, Arizona. Then in 1986 Lynn planted another church in Tempe, Arizona as a part of Sovereign Grace Ministries (then PDI). Lynn moved out to California to serve on the staff of ALCC in 1991. He and his wife Terri have four children (three of whom are married). All of them are living in the Pasadena area and are active in serving the local church. |

In the Spring of 1984, a group of 12 people were willing to relocate from the East Coast to the West in order start a new church in Southern California. They came from Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland and started Abundant Life Community Church. ALCC soon became a diverse and growing community. After meeting in playhouses, High Schools and a few other locations, a home was found on the campus of William Carey International University where we continue to meet. By God's grace, we have been able to play a part in other churches being started. In 1995, one of the ALCC pastors, Craig Cabaniss, left to plant a church in San Diego (Grace Church) and in the summer of 2002, Matthew Hoffman left for Kansas City to plant Providence Community Church. In 2006, Mike Davis and his family moved to Orange County to help establish a Pasadena satellite church in the Irvine area. In 2007, Abundant Life Community Church officially changed it's name to Sovereign Grace Church of Pasadena. SGP and these plants are part of Sovereign Grace Ministries, a family of churches that is growing worldwide. In every season of our life as a church, we have experienced the grace of God. This continues today both in our own lives and in the lives of our children as we continue to know Christ and make him known to others.
